Scale-up Hydrogenation

ThalesNano will be hosting a free 45 minute webinar on Scaling-up Hydrogenation. The webinar will be educational and will focus on teaching chemists how hydrogenation reactions may be scaled up from mgs to 100s of grams using flow techniques with little or no optimization saving valuable time and resources.

Date: July 23rd, 2009

First broadcast: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM CEST (GMT + 2 hrs) including questions

Second broadcast: 4:00PM - 5:00 PM CEST (GMT + 2 hrs) including questions

Who should attend:

  • Organic chemists from pharmaceutical, fine chemical, and petrochemical industries
  • Scale up chemists and chemical engineers interested in learning novel ways of scaling up hydrogenation reactions

The webinar will be presented by Dr. Attila Wootsch, Head of Chemistry, and will give an overview of how hydrogenation can be scaled up using flow from a ThalesNano perspective.

What will be covered:

  • How to save time and resources when scaling from mgs to 100s of grams.
  • How to incorporate the Bodenstein number and other critical factors into catalytic fixed bed reactor design and catalyst particle size to avoid wall effects and to create direct scale up from mgs to 100s of grams.
  • The utilization of dimensionless numbers to create scale up of compounds without any process optimization using chemistry examples.
  • Industry and in-house examples of scale up hydrogenation reactions carried out at up to 150°C and 100 bar. Examples include difficult selective hydrogenations, such as the reduction of a nitro group in the presence of a halide.
  • Exploring the potential to utilize the H-Cube Midi™ in the scale up of deuteration reactions without using deuterium gas cylinders.

Ask questions:

Participants can ask questions during and after the presentation in written form and they will be read out to the presenter.
