X-Cube™
The X-Cube™ is a state of the art flow reactor produced by ThalesNano Inc.
Following on from the award winning H-Cube®, the X-Cube™ broadens the scope of the way organic synthesis is performed.
The X-Cube™ allows organic reactions to be performed in a flow manner, combining the use of temperatures and pressures up to 200°C (392°F) and 150 bar (2176 psi) respectively and catalyst/reagent cartridge system (CatCart®).
Key Features
- A continuous-flow of reaction mixture may be fed by a dual pump system or injected into the reactor directly.
- Once in the system, the reaction mixture is heated, pressurized and passed through a reagent or catalyst cartridge. All reagents are heterogeneous including many polymer bound reagents and catalysts.
- The product is generated and pumped continuously out of the system into a collector.
The large selection of reagent and catalyst cartridges, available through ThalesNano Inc., allows a wide variety of reactions to be performed on the X-Cube™, including:
- Suzuki, Sonogashira and Heck couplings
- Buchwald reaction
- Halogenation
- Amine displacement
- Alkylation
- Dehydration
- Esterification
- Azide formation
The range of solid supported reagents and catalysts are continually being investigated and expanded.
Advantages
Adaptable
- Reactions can be heated and/or cooled on the same reactor.
- X-Cube™ can be combined with other X-Cube™ or H-Cube® flow reactors for multistep synthesis in one flow through.
- Capable of integration into liquid handling equipment for full automation.
Scalable
- Reactions can be easily scaled from mg to grams to kilos by using 1 reactor or many reactors in parallel.
Efficient
- The high pressure / high temperature capability means many reactions progress to completion in minutes.
- Reactions may be optimized "on the fly" to obtain optimum reaction conditions in minutes.
Safe
- Low volume system with high temperature control meaning many volatile reactions can be safely and at high pressure.

Every operational step of the X-Cube™ is controlled using a touch-screen panel. Parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow-rate and injection cam all be controlled using the touch-screen. Parameters can be changed on the fly. |
The X-Cube™ is capable of heating the reaction mixture up to 200°C (392°F). The low volume of the reaction line means heating the reaction up to temperature takes seconds and temperature control is very precise. |
The X-Cube™ is capable of pressurizing reaction mixture up to 150 bar (2176 psi) |
Reagents can be introduced via single, dual pump control or via syringe injecti |
